SONIC fuels its breakfast menu REVIEW and GIVEAWAY!

I know I am not alone when I say that Sonic’s Rt. 44 drinks are the BEST. EVER. I go through our Sonic Drive Thru so often during happy hour that they know exactly what I’m going to order: Rt. 44 Diet Dr. Pepper.  Yum!  I truly don’t think I’ve ever had anything at Sonic I didn’t like so I was excited when I was asked to review Sonic’s new menu items: Red Button Coffee and egg whites substituted in any breakfast item. Before I say another word, I want to be sure you understand that I was not compensated financially for this review, I did receive a gift card to purchase the products to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

For those of you who have been following me for a while, you know that I don’t drink coffee (remember I’m addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper!) but my husband is a coffee aficionado who routinely goes by Sonic for a hot cup of coffee on his way to his truck (he’s an OTR Truck Driver) after his home time. He knows coffee and had no problems agreeing to help me with my review.

The new coffee at Sonic is called Red Button Roast Blend and you can get regular or one of 5 flavors: Chocolate, Caramel, French Vanilla, Hazelnut and English Toffee. If you like your java strong, you can add an espresso shot as well (that’s what Keith does). He’s not one for all the fancy flavors though, just regular coffee with an expresso shot please.

This is where doing reviews isn’t always fun. Keith was not happy with the new coffee. The first cup he tried he said tasted like hot water and was so bad he couldn’t even drink it. Knowing that everyone has a bad day once in a while we decided to try another cup on his next trip home. Unfortunately his second cup was not any better. Again he said it tasted like hot water and even with the espresso shot he couldn’t taste any coffee flavor. Not exactly what I want to hear when I’m asked to do a review!

I understand everyone’s tastes are different and it could be that you love the new coffee (I hope you do!) but Keith wasn’t impressed.

So next we tried the new egg white substitution in any breakfast menu item.  We tried the Ultimate Meat & Cheese Breakfast Burrito (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!) with bacon, sausage, tater tots, cheddar cheese and egg whites. It was amazingly delicious. We couldn’t believe how big it was. We honestly could have shared one and been full so the value of what you get for what you pay is great. The bacon was crunchy, the sausage was savory and my husband said he couldn’t tell the difference in the whole egg vs the egg whites. (Score!)

The advantage of substituting the egg whites is that you reduce the calories of each item by as much as 60 calories! If you’re watching your calories, that’s big!

So next time you’re driving by Sonic, be sure to try the new Red Button Roast coffee (and please tell me what you think of it!) and substitute the egg whites in a breakfast sandwich.  I’m thinking my next order will be for the breakfast toaster with bacon and egg whites!
